Family's Heart-Wrenching Discovery: Missing Dad May Have Been Trapped in Nepal Flood Disaster

In a harrowing tale of a family's quest for answers, a young man from America made a chilling discovery that could change the fate of his father. Sunny Patel, a young man searching for his missing father, Jitendra Patel, stumbled upon a viral video depicting a catastrophic flood in the Himalayas, realizing with a shiver that his father might have been caught in the disaster.

The devastating flood, which struck the border area between Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has claimed hundreds of lives and left thousands missing. The video Patel watched on social media showed the terrifying power of the flood, which was caused by a massive chunk of ice breaking off a glacier and plunging into the Lhende Khola River, unleashing a torrent of rock, ice, and debris.

Sunny Patel, who last spoke to his father on Wednesday morning, recalled the moment he realized the gravity of the situation. "I watched the video and I just thought of how horrific it was. And then... probably 30 seconds later, it registered," he said.

The realization was especially poignant as Patel had believed his father, Jitendra, had crossed the border from Nepal into China that very morning. "But of course, it was so viral by then... My mom responded and said, 'That's exactly where he was,' actually," Patel explained.

The family's frustration has been compounded by the lack of information coming out of China, where Patel's father was believed to be. "The most frustrating part, he said, is the lack of information coming out of China. He added that his family has spoken to embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing, as well as the U.S. State Department."

Despite the overwhelming loss and confusion, the Patel family has been relentless in their efforts to locate Jitendra Patel. They have filed missing person reports with every agency they can think of, and some have been responsive.

"We're trying to go on these media segments and get the awareness out there that there are people on the Chinese side that we aren't getting a ton of information about," Patel said.

Newly released figures suggest the extent of the disaster is even more severe than initially reported, with over 600 people killed and more than 3,000 still missing. Over 4,000 have been rescued so far, but the search for more survivors continues.

For Sunny Patel, the search for his father is deeply personal. Jitendra Patel was on a spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, a place of significance for many followers of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism. "They were actually supposed to be there the day prior and unfortunately had some car troubles from what we can make out... which, you know, of course, could be all the difference," Patel explained.

Sunny Patel's father, known to be a kind and optimistic individual, always believed in the goodness of others. "He always, always, always said, 'God is good...' If you called him and said, 'How you doing?' He would say, 'I'm the best, God is great.' And he was just the most upbeat, positive person I've ever met," Patel said.

As the family continues to hope and pray for the safe return of Jitendra Patel, the tragic events in the Himalayas serve as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictable nature of natural disasters.
